Sir Francis Drake Lodge 6053
Sir Francis Drake Lodge 6053

About Us..

It is believed that the first ideas for our Lodge began on the Bowling Green’s at Ventnor Road in South Sutton and at Rose Hill Bowling Club in North Sutton and among a few bowlers elsewhere. The well known story of Sir Francis Drake playing the game on Plymouth Hoe before going to sea against the Spanish Armada inspired our Founders to consider the name Sir Francis Drake for our Lodge. The first recorded Committee Meeting took place on the 18th February 1945 at the Cock Hotel, Sutton, (now demolished) when it was announced that the United Grand Lodge of England had agreed to accept a new Lodge, namely Sir Francis Drake Lodge 6053.
